Maybe you were scrolling on Instagram, googling flooring inspiration, out for dinner in a nice restaurant and you came across a beautiful metallic looking floor, and you were struck by how elegant and unique it was. Or, maybe the first time you’ve heard of or seen metallic epoxy flooring is right now, as you’re reading this article. Well strap in as we explore what exactly metallic epoxy flooring is, and how to decide if it’s right for your needs.
So What Is Metallic Epoxy?
Before we get into our reasoning, let’s talk a little about what metallic epoxy is. Essentially, metallic epoxies are epoxy systems that have been augmented with metallic pigments to create a shimmering and durable finish. Most metallic pigmented epoxies use a 2 part system which includes epoxy resin and hardeners which helps the epoxy dry and become hard. But with metallic pigmentation, metallic pigments are implemented during the mixing process and/or in the application process to create different effects in the coating.

The Metallic Epoxy Flooring Finishes
Metallic epoxy floor coatings have become one of the most popular coating systems, both on the internet and in the real world, because of the dazzling finishes they create.
To achieve different coatings, brushes, solvents, and sometimes blowers are used to manipulate the material into curing (drying) a certain way. With these different methods, finishes that mimic the appearance of clouds, waves, and lava can be achieved when using the assistance of a professional contractor.
What most people don’t know is that since the complex chemical reactions that take place in the flooring solutions are so sporadic, no two metallic epoxies will be the same, not even by the same contractor.
These coatings are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also have many other advantages. Metallic epoxy floor coatings can be customized to be extremely durable, seamless, antimicrobial, slip resistant, and chemical resistant. Not only will these floors look beautiful, but they will meet all of your performance needs. They are great for places like residential places, waiting rooms, show rooms, restaurants, galleries, and more.
The Benefits
Many people think that metallic epoxy floors are a fragile, decorative floor coating that doesn’t offer the same benefits as traditional epoxy.
But the truth is, metallic coatings are installed with the same 100% solid epoxy system, the most durable epoxy on the market.
This means that metallic epoxies offer the benefits of a flooring system meant to be installed in commercial or industrial settings. Benefits of this floor coating include simplistic maintenance, a long service life, and resistance to common forms of damage
A non-slip surface
Metallic epoxy is reflective and can look slippery, but it’s not. Epoxy is actually an excellent option if you want non-slip flooring. It’s also possible to add topcoats for further grip if necessary, while keeping your floor looking distinctively yours.
Long lasting
Wondering about the metallic epoxy floor life expectancy? Solid epoxy is extremely durable, and it is possible to engineer it further to provide more longevity. A properly-installed metallic epoxy floor will last many years with minimal maintenance. And if the surface does become damaged from falling objects or similar abrasions, it can often be repaired for a nominal cost.
